Saw Mel Gibson's the Passion of Christ yesterday. It is said to be the best film ever made in terms of the Gospel stories. The movie was profound no doubt. The violence, the controversial violence of the movie did give me a different, a deeper understanding of He dying on the cross. The concept of the transference of sin from sinner to sacrifice, thus the forgiveness of sins, was clear. The meaning of Jesus' death on the cross hit me. Death is not easy, simple. It's a whole long process, it's lonely, a process of alienation from the living world. Everything else fades to insignificance besides His act to allow Himself to be nailed to the cross for the sake of those who sent Him to the cross in the first place. He did it for me. Amazing the power of His death. Amazing the power in His resurrection. Amazing the fulfilment of the Messianic prophecy.
